4 Exercises That Will Help Prepare Your Muscles for Better Yoga

Yoga is an exceptionally popular activity that can provide you with a wide variety of benefits, but you might be nervous about heading to your first class if you haven’t exercised in quite some time. If you are planning on taking a few yoga classes in the near future, then you might want to spend a little bit of time strengthening your major muscle groups with these few exercises.

Dancing

Those who are interested in boosting their physical and mental health should take a look at dance classes. Studies continue to reveal that dancing a few times a week is an excellent way to strengthen many of the major muscle groups as well as the cardiovascular system. As an added bonus, dancing can also improve one’s balance, and that is going to be a very important skill while doing yoga. Many transitions between poses are also dance-like in style, making dancing a great practice in fluid movements.

Water Aerobics

For those who are interested in low impact exercises, water aerobics is an excellent option. That physically strenuous activity is a great way to gain strength, and it can be carried out at any age. If you don’t have an aquatic center near your home, then you might want to spend some time researching residential concrete pools. One of those water installations can often be installed within a matter of weeks, and it will give you the perfect place to train and relax. Of course, if you aren’t a homeowner with adequate space, public pools can also be a great place to train as long as you have regular access and a safe and secluded space to practice.

Climbing

While climbing might not very similar to yoga, those two activities actually require many of the same skills. That includes excellent balance, good eye-hand coordination, stamina, and world-class flexibility. Instead of heading to a local mountain range to learn this skill, you should see if there are any indoor climbing gyms in your area. Those gyms usually offer free or inexpensive trial passes to new visitors, and you might even be able to join a climbing club. Because a lot of positions require yoga practitioners to hold their own weight on their hands, and learning to lift yourself by your hands through climbing can give you that needed edge.

Weightlifting

When it comes to strengthening all of your major muscle groups, weightlifting will be one of the most effective options. With nothing more than a good set of weights and a small area to workout, you can carry out a variety of important movements. Before you lift weights for the first time, you should consider meeting with a trainer who can teach you proper form and give you a long-term training plan. Weightlifting will help give you the strength you need to hold tougher positions and gain control in transitioning between movements.

Even if you aren’t in great shape, yoga can be an incredibly healthy activity that helps you build muscle, improve your flexibility, fluidity, and increase your stamina. While yoga is great practice for other activities, doing those other activities can transition back into yoga as well. As long as you focus on your technique and work with an experienced teacher, you are sure to enjoy that activity for many years to come.
