First, apply at the embassy of your point of entry. If your point of entry to Europe is in Frankfurt am Main, then you need to apply at the German Embassy. Provide your travel itinerary and plane ticket along with the required documents. The combined stay within the region must not exceed a total of 90 days. You can also get a multiple-entry Schengen Visa that entitles you to leave and return any number of times within the 180-day period.

Travel Health Insurance: What You Need to Know

The embassies of these countries require every individual to be covered if the purpose of visit is travel, education, employment, or business. Travelers must be prepared in times of emergencies because healthcare and travel liability costs can be very expensive. This type of insurance covers medical emergency, injury, death, trip cancellation, and delays, among others.

While it’s optional in non-visa countries, this comprehensive package is very important because of the challenges and unpredictability of traveling.

How to Get the Right Medical Coverage for Your Trip

Determine the length of your stay and prepare your travel itinerary. The best practice is to call the insurance companies of your choice to get quotes (estimated costs) and compare offers.

One of the leading insurance providers, Blue Cross, provides a wide range of travel coverage subject to the length of stay. For instance, the Prestige Euro Plan they offer covers medical treatment and travel liabilities of up to EUR 30,000.00 for a 90-day trip.

The Cost of a Coverage Plan

Using the package Prestige Euro Plan as an example, the cost is EUR 121.00, or about PHP 6,367.00, upon inquiry with Blue Cross’s account executive. They also have plans covering short trips. It’s very easy to apply for the plan that’s right for you or your group, whether online or through a customer service.

Group and family plans are also available, and Blue Cross’s travel insurance ShortSecure plan provides medical treatment coverage of up to PHP 20,000.00. This is available for Group Accounts with a minimum number of 30 persons per trip.

Visa Application

When you already bought the right insurance plan for you, your family, or group, prepare at least two (2) photocopies of the document/s as you need to show the consul the original copy of your coverage and leave a copy for the embassy’s records.

Important Reminders

Always bring your passports and a copy of your insurance package when visiting Schengen countries. Even if you’re only going to visit for a day or a short time, you may be asked to show your documents and identification especially in the main train stations, airports, and hotels.
