If you are like most people in the world today, you are well aware of the value that comes with going through a good workout on a regular basis. It is good for your health and overall sense of well being. However, thinking it and doing it are two different things entirely. Some people have difficulty getting to a gym to do their workout. Others do not live in an area where outdoor exercise is possible for long periods of time due to the weather. Still, others cannot take part in high impact exercises due to debilitating pain. If that is you, take comfort in the following four low impact exercises that you can do right from the comfort of your own home.

Modified Jumping Jacks

When most people think of jumping jacks, they think of the high impact variety where your legs come off the ground only to make contact once again. This is not good for many people. However, you can modify them so that your feet stay on the ground. Get your arms over your head, move your left foot and then your right. Keep going for 10 to 20 minutes and your heart will be glad that you gave it the workout.

Skaters

Here is your chance to become a speed skater right from your own living room. You do not even have to jump with this one. Just get yourself in a lunge position and bend both of your legs. Cross your right leg behind and then across your body. Keep your left arm straight down and then bend your right arm to the side. Alternate this over and over to complete the workout.

Yoga

Yoga is the ultimate in low-impact exercises. Many people go to local classes, but many prefer to workout from home in the winter months. If you need to learn more about how to do it at home, look through the best yoga books for beginners and video resources to get you started. It’s easy to feel intimidated as Yoga has been practiced for thousands of years, however, there is wisdom in centuries of wellness and practice. You don’t have to buy a whole new workout wardrobe and start drinking Matcha if you don’t want to.  You can even find good quality mats discounted at Burlington and Ross. What’s important is that you move your muscles and practice wellness in a way that won’t impact your joints.

Combine Squats and Boxing

This will strengthen your legs and give your arms a workout at the same time. Do a squat and then punch out with your right arm as you come out. Repeat with your left and then continue alternating.

There are many more low-impact exercises that you can also do at home. The key is to get active and help your heart rate to be elevated and get your blood pumping. If you can do that, then the workout will be beneficial to you in the end. You can always find 20 minutes to carve out here and there to complete these exercises. Resolve to start doing that this week.
